I want to find out what sort of help you can expect from a forum signature these days.

Animal farm all over again

July 5th, 2008

I welcome the shift in power. I welcome movements with spirit. Blackhat, so be it. I love it when I see some old settled in boring people shit in their pants cause they feel like they are losing their stronghold. So many people are successful because they came in early and the young ones look at them saying “these guys aint shit, let’s hack them and get them off of their high horse”.

The only thing that bothers me is seeing the exact same games amongst the new communities which they claim to hate about the old ones. So Robin Hood may have given to the poor but the new ones seem to bag it themselves.

Funny Blogs

July 5th, 2008

I really want to get a list together of some blogs I really like, but there are SO few out there. I myself do not really like some of my old posts. Let’s face it, the whole SEO copywriting thing can seriously get to you. Or me. Or anyone who is trying to rank for some shit and forgets that people and not just bots read this. Anyways, I love Summer’s blog which has its widget on the right. I also like this blog even though the owner listens to the wrong people. I like any blog that people with a brain and a fresh outlook on life attend to. And there are so few.
Google is part of the reason we cannot find the good ones. Sorry Matt, but your style of writing is the typical style of a programmer. The internet needs flavor. The internet needs a lot less corporate BS. The old Google mentality was more focused on what Aaron called “Empowering the voiceless”. I love it when someone has the guts to say what he wants to, so seobook is one I recommend for the reason that he is friends with Matt (or was) but tells it like it is, points out bogus when he reads it.
It is easy to do that when you are not up there, but it is great when you do it when up there and use your status as somewhat of a celebrity to voice your opinion and not completely get washed down by the economical machinery.

No, I am not claiming to practice what I preach. I am simply saying this:
If there is a blog you know about that you really like and that is not your own splog, please post it here. Right now I have a problem finding someone to interview on SF who actually inspires me to ask interesting questions. I think I will go with Jill next, but I will not ask fluff.
Some blackhat questions are on the way if you’re game, babe ;)

when people worship people

July 5th, 2008

I have always had a problem with people who cannot stand on their own and feel empowered by a friend or associate who has it going on. This is more transparent on the internet than anywhere else. It shows because people are bonding with those who help them get business and will do whatever it takes to protect their own interests.

Maybe I am too sensitive, maybe I get jealous, who knows. But one thing that pisses me off is when some asskisser blames me for not kissing the same ass they do.

Oh, you think I am talking about you? Then stop being paranoid and watching my blog.

Google’s blog search results are the worst

July 5th, 2008

when I google “marketing blog”, “internet marketing blog” or whatever keywaord followed by blog, I shake my head and wonder why nobody in the Google plex has some common sense and understands that blogs with the last post being “Google just filed for a patent” from 2004 don’t belong in any results that have the word blog searched for. If I search for a blog, I want something that has news. I don’t need to see some old abandonded livejournal POS with 3 posts just because it’s on an authority domain and has age benefits.

Wake up Matt. Telling us to blog frequently to get links is great, but please make sure that the garbage gets cleaned up as well, since the best blogs are buried on page 5-11.

What independence day means to me.

July 5th, 2008

I didn’t grow up in the US. So for the most part of my life independence day meant no more than a day to party. Now as I get older, my outlook changes. What exactly is so special about this day? I think I’m starting to get it.

Unlike Canada, Australia and such Americans decided to do their own thing. It took faith and courage to be a settler. It took a lot of balls to leave everything behind. Many had nothing to leave behind. They came from the UK after being on the bottom of the food chain and when then the UK had the nerve to expect part ownership of their newfound home, Americans said a big fuck off and sent out a message that resonates to this day.

God bless America and happy 4th of July!

Get targeted traffic fast

July 4th, 2008

If you are a new webmaster and want to get started strong., my advice to you is not to pay attention to your main keyterm but find an easier one that promises targeted traffic. For example: Let’s say your site is about Costa Rica real estate.

Start a page about Santa Teresa Costa Rica Real Estate or rather make a blog post about it.

Best foot forward. Comment on do follow blogs popping up for that keyterm and make good comments.

You will get traffic thru the blog comment and it will help you with the rankings of your own site for the keyword in the anchor. Comment on no follow blogs as well, this is about marketing, not just SEO.
Use your site name in the text of your links in addition to the keywords.

You can link to the section of your blog where the chance of ranking and becoming popular for something specific is strongest:
Searchfeature.com - Interviews with SEO Experts
Link to successful competitors as you will get traffic for their business and domain name as well.
I will keep updating this post with more ideas.
If this helped you, sign up at my SEO Forum and ask questions there. Start a thread and if you are interested in being a moderator, hit me up!

Wordpress blogs keep getting hacked and then penalized by Google

July 3rd, 2008

Wondering when Google is going to take notice and do something to take the possibility of websites being hacked and spammed by someone other than the owner to cause the penalty. more and more blogs it happens to. Wordpress blogs mainly.

Google uses your search logs to fight webspam

July 2nd, 2008

Not sure why so many people act so surprised over this.
Also unsure why so many people are giving Google free data by getting an API key to track their keywords or using analytics. This is not something new. Google has always taken the stand of “Yes, we spy on you, but it’s for your own good”.
